A process for producing 1,1,1-trifluoroethane by reacting 1,1,1-trichloroethane with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a fluorination catalyst under conditions sufficient to produce 1,1,1-trifluoroethane but in the absence of a solvent. The 1,1,1-trifluoroethane is useful as a refrigerant, in air conditioners, heat pumps, and as a propellant or blowing agent.
