The travel brake control switch (2) has a lever for selecting the brake function coupled to a horizontal operating shaft (3) and pivoted in a vertical plane, its movement transmitted via a conversion gearing to a required value shaft (5) parallel to the operating shaft, associated with a required value source. The conversion gearing uses a cog segment (4) attached to the operating shaft and a second cog segment (5) attached to the required value shaft, with a different radius. A block cylinder attached to the operating shaft and a second block cylinder (8) attached to the required value shaft, cooperate with a wedge element (9) inserted between them to block the brake function, until released by the movement of the lever in a given direction.
