PURPOSE: To provide a process for removing viruses form protein solution, particularly from blood products to be used for treatment and other medical purposes in an industrial scale. CONSTITUTION: When particles as an absorbent are suspended in protein solution and the particles are separated together with adsorbed viruses from the protein solution thereby separating viruses therefrom, at least one selected from the group consisting of kieselguhr, silicic acid, clay mineral, metal hydroxide, metal oxide hydrate, cellulose, pearlite, bentonite is use as an adsorbent and the adsorbent and the protein solution are brought into contact with each other for at least 10 minutes, for example, 3-48 hours. The adsorbent is separated by centrifugation or filtration and the adsorbent and the protein solution are brought into contact at least twice, preferably at least three times. Every time of treatment, virgin adsorbent is added, the pH value and/or ion strength of the protein solution are varied to enhance the adsorption of the viruses. |
