This invention relates to a recording/reproduction apparatus and aims at facilitating a divide processing and combine processing. The apparatus includes recording/reproduction means for recording or reproducing data to or from a recording medium for storing data and management information for recording or reproducing data; designation means for designating a border position between data sections; and control means for controlling a data recording or reproduction operation by the recording/reproduction means to or from the recording medium on the basis of the management information, recognizing the point of time, at which the designation means is operated, as the border position when the designation means is operated during the data recording or reproduction operation by the recording/reproduction means to or from the recording medium, and controlling the recording/reproduction means so as to update the management information.
