The luminance component of the 8-bit quantised input signal is sampled at 13.5 MHz and the helper signal carrying vertical height information at 6.75 MHz. The chrominance component is already demodulated and sampled at 3.375 MHz. The helper signal is horizontally filtered and entered into a look-up table for decompressing, with amplitude resolution reduced to 6 bits for storage in a first field memory (2). Already processed values are held in a secondary memory (1) also contg. 6,144 blocks of forty 12-bit words. The storage management performs cyclic writing and readout over 6 half-pictures in film and camera modes.
