The metal encapsulated, pressurised-gas-insulated, high voltage power switch has at least one switch point (2) whose contacts (3, 4) are blasted with quenching gas during switching off. The switch point (2) contacts (3, 4) are hollow to act as a conduit for the hot switch gas. An expansion chamber (20) for the switch gas is connected by gas technology to the contacts (3, 4). Hollow conduits (9, 10) are electrically connected to each of the contacts (3, 4). The hollow conduits (9, 10) are directly connected to the expansion chamber (20) and are formed to guide and distribute the hot quenching gas. The conduits (9, 10) may be provided with a number of openings (21) distributed along the length. The conduits (9, 10) may be arranged in the middle of a porcelain conduit (13, 14) which is connected at one end with the metal capsule (7) and at the other end with a connector clamp plate (16).
