<p>A closed-chamber type mineral separator capable of continuous operation is disclosed. The apparatus includes a fluid-tight housing (9) oscillated about a vertical axis, the housing (9) containing a central deflector (20) separating the housing (9) into an upper chamber (22a) and a lower chamber (22b). Baffles (30, 42) are provided in both chambers (22a, 22b), above and below the deflector (20). The upper baffle (30) directs the incoming slurry radially outwardly in a torical path, throwing the particulate material towards the periphery of the housing (9) in a first separation zone, the particulate material passing in a gravity induced flow, through the annular passageway (25) into the lower hopper (26b) where the relatively lighter and heavier constituents are then separated and separately discharged from the housing (9). A ring dam (45) formed in the second baffle (42) provides a recess (43) into which the lighter constituents overflow where they are reunited with the liquid flow path and thus discharged from the housing (9). The heavier constituents pass through the discharge port (18a). </p> |
