To transmit digital data between any subscribers (TE1, TE2) of an N-ISDN network (15, 15.1, 15.2), the latter is interconnected with an ATM network (18). Two interface units (NA1, NA2) are connected to in each case one node (22, 26) of each of the networks via incoming and outgoing lines of the respective network standard (23, 24; 27, 28). The interface units (NA1, NA2) are constructed for receiving and transmitting time-division multiplexed octets on the side of the N-ISDN network (15) and for receiving and transmitting cells on the side of the ATM network (18). The cells are used as addressed carriers for a multiplicity of octets, all of which have the same destination direction. The interface units (NA1, NA2) operate in a non-blocking and loss-free manner. <IMAGE> |
