PURPOSE:To shorten the time required for retrieval and to simplify an operation by efficiently searching a character of which reading is not recognized. CONSTITUTION:A Chinese character (KANJI) input means 1 is used for KANJI inputting excepting for similar character inputting and composed of a Japanese syllabary (KANA)/KANJI converting means or the like. When a key character is applied by the KANJI input means 1, a similar character dictionary 3 is retrieved by a similar character retrieving part 2. For the similar character dictionary 3, the groups of similarly shaped characters and the degrees of similarity are collected at the equipment which enables Japanese inputting. When a candidate character is applied by the similar character retrieving part 2, at a buffer managing part 4, a new buffer is prepared from characters already stored in a buffer part 5 and the new candidate character, and the candidate character is displayed/selected by a candidate display/selecting part 6. Thus, the target character can be found out by using the similar character dictionary collecting the similarly shaped characters. |
