The winding machine, especially a warping machine with a warping beam (2), has a housing which encloses the winding zone (5) round the beam (2), shrouded against the environment and especially against the creel. The warps (4) are wound on the beam (2) with a deflection roller (6), with a gap seal (8a,8b) at the deflection roller (6). The side of the housing away from the creel, on the operative's side, is covered (9) when the machine is in operation, and the cover (9) can slide or swing open when the machine is at rest for access to the winding zone. The winding zone has at least one suction channel (10b) with a suction opening (11) near the floor level, to extract any dirt. Air ventilation openings are at the side of the housing and near the floor level. A suction unit (17) is over the warping machine (1) for extraction of dirt carried in from the creel, connected to the suction channels (10b) at the warping zone. The suction unit (17) has a suction trunk (13), and the suction channels (10b) open into the trunk. The suction trunk (13) can swing upwards, and the folding doors (9) are connected to the trunk (13) to swing together in the rest setting. The suction channels (10b) are in the folding doors (9). At least one pressure channel develops an overpressure in the winding zone (5).
