PURPOSE:To enhance the scratch resistance in color printing while improving printing quality by holding the image transferred to a recording medium between an intermediate transfer member and a pressure means to reheat and re-press the same along with the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The printing operation due to a thermal transfer line printer is started by performing the cueing of the ink of a color ink sheet. The color ink sheet 6 is allowed to run by the driving force of a drive source for the sake of the printing of a first color and the discrimination marker provided on the head side in the running direction of yellow ink is detected by a detection means and the head of the region coated with the ink is set to a transfer position. In this state, a line thermal head 5 is brought into contact with an intermediate transfer roller 2 in this state and the color ink sheet 6 is held between the line thermal head 5 and the intermediate transfer roller 2 to be brought into contact with the roller 2 under pressure and temp. of a degree not melting ink is applied to the color ink sheet 6 by the heater 4 arranged in the intermediate transfer roller 2.
