The automatic plate distributor has a cabinet (100) holding a stack of plates (P). Plates are sepd. from the stack and delivered (200) to an outlet where they can be collected by the user. A mechanism (300) separates the plates from the stack for delivery. The front of the distributor carries a unit (400) where the user can present their authorisation. The mechanism (300) that removes the plates from the stack is formed by retractable rollers (310) positioned at the level of the bottom of the stack of plates. Two jaws (320) clamp the stack of plates while the rollers displace the plate at the bottom of the stack.
