PURPOSE:To protect an objective lens against damage due to collision by applying a buffer member to the inner wall of a space for housing the objective lens and the actuator for focus servo/tracking servo. CONSTITUTION:An optical means 3 comprises an objective lens 31, an actuator 32 for varying the position thereof, and a space 33 for housing them. The actuator varies the attitude and position of the objective lens 31 depending on a drive signal received from a control section and focuses a light beam from a light source onto a track of an optical disc. When the focus error or a tracking error is increased, the moving amount of the objective lens 31 is also increased. During special reproduction, e.g. search scan, the tracking servo is turned OFF and the objective lens 31 is subjected to free vibration of a spring. Since the objective lens 31 may collide against the inner wall of the housing space 33 upon application of an external vibration, a buffer member 34 is applied to the inner wall of the housing space 33. |
