PURPOSE: To provide a retaining device by which a sensor for measuring the mutual motion of two relatively rotating members can be very simply, quickly, and also surely fitted to the irrotational bearing ring of a bearing. CONSTITUTION: A measuring sensor 21 accurately opposed to a phonic wheel 20 that is retained by closely fitting it to a rotating bearing ring 11 by means of a metallic screen 22 is housed inside a sensor carrier 23 so as to be retained in a retaining device 24. The one end part 26a of the retaining device 24 is subjected to beading and fixed along the entire circumference of the circumferential groove 16b of the irrotational bearing ring 10, and the other end part 25a is formed and fixed along the slope 29 of the truncated cone of the sensor carrier.
