<p>A safety apparatus is provided for use with a climbing harness of the kind including a waist belt (16, figure 3) having a rope (15) secured to opposite sides of the belt and passing round a pole (17) being climbed. The apparatus comprises a metal bracket (11) extending between and holding the opposite sides of the rope (15) closer together than would be the case in the absence of the bracket so as to maintain a greater length of the rope in frictional engagement with the circumference of the pole. The bracket (11) is slidable towards or away from the pole and is biassed towards the pole (17) by an elastic cord (20) passing around the pole and attached to opposite ends of the bracket.</p> |
