A method of improving the sun protection factor (SPF) of textile fibre material comprises treating the textile fibre material with a composition comprising at least one fluorescent whitening agent which absorbs radiation in the wavelength range 280 - 400 nm. The agent may be selected from numerous compounds, eg., stilbene, biphenyl, triazole, benzimidazole, benzoxazole, napthazole, benzimidazole-benzofuran or oxanilide coumarine, pyrazoline, napthalimide or triazinyl-pyrene derivatives. |
