<p>PURPOSE:To continuously perform a correct and high speed rewinding processing regardless of the recording system of a magnetic tape medium to be loaded by providing newly a control data storage area, a running means and a medium recognition means. CONSTITUTION:A medium class recognition means 16 recognizes a magnetic tape medium 1 having a control block to which a block number is not assigned and stores a control block medium flag 16a indicating the recongnized result in a control data storage area 14. When a running control means 10 receives the rewinding command of the magnetic tape medium 1 from a host device, the biginning position of the magnetic tape (BOT) is set at a rewinding position in the case the control block medium flag 16a is stored in the control data storage area 14. Conversely, the position of a first block number is set at the rewinding position in the case the control block medium flag 16a is not stored in the control data storage area 14. The running control means 10 receives these set result and then rewinds the magnetic tape 1 to the set position by driving and controlling a magnetic tape driving part 2.</p> |
