PURPOSE: To prevent careless or unintentional driving connection to a reverse ratio without relying on a mechanical interlock device on an automatic speed changer for a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: An automatic speed changer 10 practices shifting of a transmission 12 by detecting operation of a selector 1 by a driver, processing signals from the selector 1, a throttle position sensor 22, an engine speed sensor 28, an input shaft speed sensor 32, an output shaft speed sensor 36, etc., in accordance with a specified logical rule by a central processor 38 and outputting a command signal to a fuel control part 26, a clutch operator 30, an exhaust brake 17, an input shaft brake 18, a transmission operator 34, etc. The central processor 38 prevents careless connection to a reverse ratio by outputting a command to practice connection to the reverse ratio only at the time when prerequisites are detected with these prerequisites that (1) vehicle speed is lower than a standard value, (2) the transmission 12 is at a neutral position for a standard period of time, (3) reverse shift operating time is longer than standard time, etc. |
