<p>PURPOSE: To increase efficiency by stabilizing and enhancing engine outputs produced by a turbocharger. CONSTITUTION: This system includes a bypass valve 40 for feeding air from the compressor of a turbocharger to an engine to the upstream of the turbine of the turbocharger and a wastegate 44 for feeding exhaust gas fed from the engine to the turbine to the downstream of the turbine. A turbocharger control module 48, in accordance with signals 54, 56 from monitors 60, 62,..., outputs control signals 76, 78 respectively to the actuator 70 of the bypass valve 40 and the actuator 74 of the wastegate 44 so that the turbocharger operates within predetermined island shaped regions on a pressure ratio versus mass airflow map stored in a memory 52.</p> |
