PURPOSE:To obtain a lubricating oil additive comprising a polymer containing a specific alkyl (meth)acrylate and a compound such as N-vinylpyrrolidone in a specific ratio as constituting units, capable of being used even under severe environments, and excellent in low temperature viscosity characteristics and oxidation resistance. CONSTITUTION:This lubricating oil additive comprises (A) a polymer containing (i) 70-99.5wt.% of an alkyl (meth)acrylate wherein the alkyl has <=10 carbon atoms, and (ii) 0.5-30wt.% of one or more kinds of compounds selected from N-vinylpyrrolidone, an N,N-dialkylaminoalkyl (meth)acrylate wherein the alkyl has 1-4 carbon atoms, vinylpyridine, morpholinoethyl (meth)acrylate and vinylimidazole as constituting units, and further preferably (B) a pour point- depressant such as a chlorinated paraffin/naphthalene condensate. The compounding weight ratio of the components A/B is preferably 80/20 to 99/1. |
