PURPOSE:To obtain a narrow ink sheet reduced in its total length and a color thermal transfer printer capable of using the ink sheet by selecting the position of a sensor mark and the kind of a sensor. CONSTITUTION:A cueing sensor mark 4f is provided to the transparent part on the single side of a base film 4a and one discrimination sensor mark 4h is provided between the bondaries of specific colorants and no sensor mark is provided between the boundaries of other colorants at all. In order to make an ink sheet inexpensive, the sensor mark is constituted of a cyan or black colorant itself. The sensor detecting the discrimination sensor mark 4h is constituted of a red optical sensor Sr1 or a green optical sensor so as to be capable of using the ink sheet 4.
