<p>PURPOSE: To provide a high pressure gas discharge lamp simple in structure and counteracting an early failure. CONSTITUTION: A high pressure gas discharge lamp is provided with a sealed lamp container 1 having a quartz glass wall 2 surrounding discharge space 3. Metallic foil 4 is embedded in this lamp container wall and connected to an electrode rod 6 having a peripheral edge coat 7 of quartz glass at least adjacent to the metallic foil. The coat 7 has a rigidly-fixed bonded part to the electrode rod 6. This coat 7 is provided with an additive, selected from a group of thorium, yttrium and hafnium, at an interface 7' adjacent to a boundary between the electrode rod 6 and the coat 7. Or interlocking constitution of the electrode rod 6 and coat 7 can be obtained by making rhenium exist on the surface of the electrode rod 6. The coat 7 is separated from the container wall and fitted mechanically loose from the container wall for powerful bonding of the quartz glass and electrode rod at the time of completion of sealing and for large difference of an expansion coefficient, but the early failure of the discharge lamp caused by leakage is prevented by this coat.</p> |
