[Also in Group XVII] A pallet-loading machine has an inclined loading platform 16 comprising freely-mounted rollers 15. Articles 13 are fed down the platform 16 and when the correct number have been assembled thereon the operator presses a foot switch 83, to raise a stop-bar 19, and the assembled layer then passes on to a roller conveyer or stripper plate 18 positioned (as shown in broken lines) to constitute an extension of the platform 16. When the assembled layer on the roller conveyer 18 contacts a second stop-bar 84, the first stop-bar 19 is lowered and the roller conveyer 18 is automatically withdrawn to a position below the loading platform 16 to cause the articles on the roller conveyer 18 to be stripped therefrom by the stop-bar 19 and be deposited on a pallet 23. As the roller conveyer 18 reaches its fully retracted position, it actuates a switch to lower the pallet 23 by one layer. The roller conveyer 18 then returns to its position as an extension of the platform 16 and a fresh cycle may then commence. Specification 881,284 is referred to.
