The rotor (1) of the impact breaker has a vertical axis of rotation. It forms in its upper part a material pick-up plate (3) from which the material is spun under centrifugal force against the outer wall (9) of the ring gap (8). The outer wall extends up beyond the inner wall (10). The walls forming the ring gap rotate at the same speed as the rotor about its axis (2). The material pick-up plate can have over its circumference guide channels (5) running outwards so that the material is guided outwards from the centre of the plate on a prescribed path. The guide channels can extend radially outwards like spokes.
