PURPOSE:To prevent localized scratching and machining distortion of a fiber surface and lowering of a polishing force by controlling the stiffness value, surface roughness, and diamond grain size of a diamond polishing film to specific values in finish polishing an optical fiber connector. CONSTITUTION:In a diamond polishing film for polishing the end faces of optical fiber connectors using a plastic film as a support, a stiffness value (ET<3>) defined for use as the flexibility index of the polishing film with T being the overall height of the polishing film and E being Young's modulus of the film is 3.75X10<7>+ or -0.75X10<7>kgf/cm<2>(mum)<3>, the average grain diameter (d50) of diamond grains is 0.1 to 0.75mum, and the center line average surface roughness (Ra) of the film surface is 0.1 to 0.25mum. Therefore, scratching and machining distortion of fiber surfaces can be restrained and high-performance polishing maintained. |
