The voltage generator provides a constant voltage level using a charge pump (31), for providing a DC voltage by rectifying a clock signal, a variable frequency generator (33) and a voltage control (35), supplying the control signal (SC) for the frequency generator in dependence on the output signal level at the charge pump. Pref. the variable frequency generator uses an oscillator with an odd number of inverts, with a variable power control determining the power supplied to the inverters in dependence on the supplied control signal, for linear control of the oscillation frequency.
