PURPOSE:To improve a visual characteristic and to make a color filter applicable to a liquid crystal display device of a direct viewing type as well by forming the surface of interference layers of each of respective color regions as spherical surface shapes and making the film thicknesses of interference fringes uniform with respect to the normal direction of the spherical surfaces for each of the respective color regions. CONSTITUTION:Spacer layers having the film thicknesses as the multiples of the wavelengths half of the wavelengths of necessary transmitted light are held between the two interference layers 12 which are formed by alternately laminating thin films of TiO2 and SiO2 on a transparent substrate 11 consisting of glass, etc., and are respectively formed to the spherical surface shapes for each of the regions corresponding respectively to three colors R, G, B. The surfaces of the interference layers 12 for each of the respective color regions are formed to the spherical surface shape and the film thicknesses of the interference layers 12 are uniform at all places in the normal direction of the spherical surfaces. The film thicknesses of the interference layers 12 in which light passes optically are the same without varying at any places on the spherical surfaces with respect to the normal direction of the interference layers 12 having the spherical surface and, therefore, the color change by a change of the visual direction does not change. As a result, the visual sensation of only the angle with the surface part of the interference layers 12 having the spherical surface is assured. |
