<p>PURPOSE: To avoid drivers' irritations and operational errors while the input and output parts of a drive connector are disconnected, by actively adjusting the output part or giving it torque via drives or by overcoming a self-locking operation before the disconnection. CONSTITUTION: A steering column 2 is divided into an input part 2' and an output part 2", which are interconnected by a sliding clutch 5 and are respectively provided with electric drives 6 an 7 of a n on-self-locking type. When separated from their energy source, steered vehicle wheels 4 of the steering system are turned according to the motion of a steering wheel 1. The drives 6 and 7 are actuated by an automatic controller 8 with sensors 9 and, upon a malfunction of the controller 8, are separated from their energy source. The drives 6 and 7 even in a completely functioning state continuously maintain a non-self- locking characteristic that allows the input part 2' or output part 2" to produce torque independently.</p> |
