The support prop has a vertical shaft with a bearing plate (7) at its top end, for supporting a floor joist. The bearing plate has radially symmetrical projections (12) arranged in pairs, with the projections each having a threaded bore (15), facing in the direction of the other projection of the same pair, for receiving a clamping screw. Pref. the bearing plate has 2 pairs of diametrically opposing projections, offset from one another by 90 degrees, the projections of each pair arranged symmetrical to the corresponding centre line of the bearing plate.
