PURPOSE:To obtain a ceramic honeycomb structure having high strength and preventing ineffective use of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Only imperfect cells 2b in the outermost peripheral part of a ceramic honeycomb structure are plugged up with a ceramic material 4 to obtain the objective ceramic honeycomb structure 3. The imperfect cells are opposite to perfect cells, and when the perfect cells are square, the imperfect cells are not square. It is preferable that a cell whose area is <90% of that of a perfect cell is considered to be an imperfect cell.
