The piano has a buffer strip (1) which is fitted between the strings (10) and the hammer stalks (4), in order to limit the motion of the hammers, and to prevent their heads (9) from striking the strings. The strip is mounted on flexible and moveable mountings (2). The mountings can be formed from spring wire, or from a spring sheet comb with its teeth fastened to a moveable drive component (7), and its body attached to the strip. The drive component can also have a longitudinal hinge (24) secured to the frame of the device, and about which the upper part can pivot, in order to move the buffer strip.
