A bituminous coating partic. for road surfaces, comprises granulates, bitumen and mineral fibre as mineral fibre insulation and chopped mineral fibres. The insulation type mineral fibres, e.g., mineral wool have fibres less than 2 mm long, which are introduced in the form of modules. The chopped fibres are at least 3 mm long, partic. 10-25 mm in dia.. Total mineral content is 0.5-30% with ratio of insulation type to chopped fibre type of 95/5 to 5/95. Prodn. is by mixing and heating the granulate; incorporating the liq. bitumen while adding all or part of the fibrous material; and incorporating the rest of the fibrous material independent of any bitumen.
