In a known thermo-electric device of the type shown in Fig. 1 in which P and N type members 4, 5 are soldered to copper blocks 1, 2, 3. The P and N type members are provided before soldering with an insulating sleeve. This sleeve has a mechanical strength which is at least as great as that of the leg and a thermal conductivity preferably less than 10% of that of the member. Fig. 4 shows a thermo-electric member before soldering with a sleeve 13 of an epoxy resin. Soldering takes place where indicated by the dotted lines and the tapered shape at the end of the member and the coating allows the removal of surplus solder. The members may be individually coated or out from a larger coated member. |
