The independent air conditioner unit consists of an external section (1), which is situated outside the passenger compartment, and an internal section (2). The two parts of the unit are designed to fit on either side of one of the vehicle window panels (4), leaving a narrow section connecting channel (3) to allow air to pass through from the external section to the internal section and from there into the car. Air is compressed through a reducing section inlet into the front of the external section by the movement of the car. As it is compressed it is also cooled. It then passes through the restrictor (3) into the internal section and from there into the passenger compartment, thus providing a gentle flow of cooled air. At high vehicle speeds, the incoming air cools a water jacket, which, in turn serves to cool the incoming air at slow speeds. A fan is also fitted to supplement the air flow at slow vehicle speeds. |
