<p>Process uses a carrier film, such as PP, polyester, PVF etc., which is first coated with a non-pigmented resin compsn., then with an ink/resin compsn. contg. solid crystalline pigment particles; the coatings are then dried. The coated carrier film is contacted with a thermoplastic sheet, such as polyvinyl butyral sheet having a roughened surface, by passing them together through heated nip-rolls, the coating being transferred to the thermoplastic sheet. The heat and pressure are controlled at levels which result in the surface roughness of the sheet being maintained, preventing the entrapment of air in the final lamination process. The pigments are fine particle size crystalline materials which provide transmission of light without appreciable scattering, such as copper phthalocyanine blue, anthraquinone red, cadmium sulphoselenide red, etc. Suitable binder resins include nitrocellulose, cellulose esters, polyvinyl butyral, etc.</p> |
