The device comprises a fork catch (22) which is securable by a pivotable stop pawl (23) which with the aid of a lever (25) is pivotable into a release position. The unlocking device contains an opening unit (4) arranged on the side of the column (3) of the vehicle bodywork opposite to the lock (9). The opening unit is connected with a release mechanism arranged outside the vehicle door closure and coupled by a Bowden cable connection (5). For the opening unit an operating rod (12) is provided, which through a hollow space (13) in the closure bolt (14) extends into the lock. Between the operating rod and the stop pawl lever an additional force transmission component is provided.
