The apparatus for maintaining sound by storing signals in digital memory for playing back at normal rate, comprises: a MICOM for generating whole control signals of VCR; an A/D converter(11) for converting an analog audio signal read by a head to a digital audio signal; a memory(12) for recording and reading the A/D converted audio signal data; a D/A converter(16) for converting the recorded data of the memory(12) to a analog signal; a event control logic means(15) for controlling the converted frequencies and times of the A/D converter(11) and the D/A converter(16) to input the control signals from the MICOM, and initializing when a mode is changed; and a memory controller(14) for controlling to record the A/D converted data in the memory(12) by the control signals of the event control logic means(15), and to differently read the recorded datas of the memory(12) according to varied speed and direction.
