Conical plug suspended on float and associated seal

A self-operating drain plug seals the heavy fluid outlet of a vessel in which heavy fluid is separated from light fluid. The plug is opened and shut in relation to the depth of the light fluid in the vessel by means of a float which rises and falls and which is connected to the plug. The circular plug with rounded upper surface (12) is of conical section and rests upon a circular matching seal (17) with a flat upper surface (22) and an associated conical sealing surface (18). The plug surfaces (21,16) rest in contact with the seal surfaces (22,18). The float (10) rises and falls within a guidance tube (19).
