PURPOSE:To reproduce a stereoscopic picture from compressed picture data by respectively compressed picture signals exclusively used for left eye and right eye by forecasting encoding, dividing forecasting error data, read from a compressed picture data recording medium in which the forecasting error data for the right and left are mutually stored, into image signals exclusively used for the left eye and right eye with a pair of forecasting circuits and mutually decoding them. CONSTITUTION:To a CD-ROM 22 to go to be a compressed stereoscopic picture data recording medium, forecasting error data Ln and Rn for right and left, obtained by individually forecasting encoding between frames picture data V1 and Yr exclusively used for right eye and left eye respectively, are mutually recorded. A decoding control circuit 29 detects index data added to the forecasting error data Ln and Rn read from the CD-ROM 22, switches changing-over switches 26 and 27 according to the detected index data and controls them. Thus, since the picture signals exclusively used for the left eye and right eye is mutually obtained, for example, by observation through a stereoscope with a liquid crystal shutter, a stereoscopic picture to utilize a binocular parallax can be appreciated. |
