PURPOSE:To obtain an artificial marble having excellent water resistance, luster, profoundness, etc., by thermally compression molding a resin composition of a specific composition in a mold and applying a coating compound to the back of the molding. CONSTITUTION:(A) An unsaturated polyester using a hydrogenated bisphenol A and an alpha, beta-ethylenic unsaturated dibasic acid, (B) a copolymerizable monomer, (C) an unsaturated alcohol copolymerizable with the components A and B, (D) a low-molecular weight styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer having the molecular ratio of styrene/maleic anhydride of 3/1 to 7/1 and <5,000 number- average molecular weight are prepared. These components are mixed in such a way that the used amount of the component C has the weight ratio of the component C/B of 1/99-50/50, that of the component A/the components (B+C) of 30/70-70/30 and that of the component D/the components (A+B+C+) of 10/90-40/60. Then the components A to D are mixed with glass powder and/or aluminum hydroxide, thermally compression molded in a mold and a coating compound is applied to the back of the molding to provide the artificial marble with a pattern. |
