Appts. for ultrasonic examination of a pipe (20), which extends, horizontally from a vertical main vessel (1)., comprises an ultrasonic scanning head (10) rotatable about the pipe axis between two inflatable sleeves (12), which isolate a section of the pipe interior to form a chamber (11) through which water is circulated. The appts. includes an upper mounting plate (4) designed to connect to a similar plate on the lower end of an articulated support arm, also a motor (16) and gearing to rotate the head, all located in the vessel with the head (10) and sleeves (12) projecting into the pipe (20). The gearing includes a worm drive designed to restrict the rotation of the head (10) to 360 degrees as it scans the pipe interior wall and a monitor (18) indicating the angular position of the head. |
