METHOD AND DEVICE FOR FORMING PICTURE DATA IN HIERARCHICAL PICTURE FILE

PURPOSE:To obtain a method for picture data forming and its equipment in a picture file of a resolution hierarchy in which excellent picture quality is obtained with a few arithmetic operations. CONSTITUTION:In the picture file configuration of Gaussian plane, original picture data G0 are reduced according to each of resolution hierarchies to form picture data G0-GM-1 of a hierarchical file and contour emphasis processing (70-7M-1) is applied to, e.g. a luminance signal in each of hierarchies. The picture data file is configurated by picture data G0a-GM-1a of each hierarchy after contour emphasis processing. Thus, the effect of picture quality deterioration in the processing after contour emphasis is reduced and the processing quantity is reduced and the processing speed is improved.
