The invention relates to a seal with a labyrinthine sealing gap to prevent leaks along a shaft between two adjacent chambers through which the shaft passes and which are subject to varying pressure/underpressure differences, especially for motor and drive casings of railway drives. In order further to improve labyrinthine seals and reliably and relatively simply to prevent the ingress of oil into the motor or the ingress of dirt into the drive, even if unusual variations and reversals in pressure and underpressure occur between the ends of the seal, the invention proposes that, to relieve the sealing gap of pressure/underpressure differences, a relief region (12) of stable "neutral pressure" or adjustable underpressure be allocated to the actual sealing regions (9/11). The relief region (12) is preferably inserted between the actual sealing regions (9/11) with the direction of leakage changing through the pressure/underpressure ratios. |
