A luminance signal (Y) in a component video signal is pulse frequency modulated, and the pulse frequency modulated signal is sequentially pulse width modulated by two color difference signals (Pr, Pb) alternately. Thus, the component video signal is transmitted as one pulse train signal efficiently without extending the transmission band widely.
