SIMULTANEOUS PRODUCTION OF TERT-BUTYL ALCOHOL AND DI-TERT-BUTYL PEROXIDE FROM TERT-BUTYL HYDROPEROXIDE

In a method where a tert.-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) charge stock contg. a soln. of TBHP in tert. butyl alcohol (TBA) is contacted with a hydroperoxide decompsn. catalyst to co-produce TBA and DTBP, the improvement comprising: (a) using a catalyst comprising Pd supported on pelleted C; (b) recovering TBA and DTBP from the hydroperoxide decompsn. prods. Also claimed are pref. conditions. The reaction condition is pref. at 40-160 deg.C and 0-10,000 psig. The catalyst comprises 0.1-1 wt.% Pd on pelleted C.
