The product to be ground and a stream of air are both introduced to the grinding chamber close to the axis of a single grinding rotor (2) whose periphery carries a number of vanes (4). A series of impact plates (14) and grilles (16) are arranged alternately around the rotor to define a drum surface. The product is broken down in size by impact against a leading surface (18) of each impact plate, and the resulting pulverised material is sieved through the grilles under the force of the air flow (Vo). The surface (C) of the impact plate immediately following the leading surface forms a coplanar extension of the plane (AB) defined by the surface of the grille.
