Polyhydroxy amine compounds, having formula (I), wherein: X is a bridging group having from 2 to 200 atoms; Z and Z' are the same or different alcohol-containing moieties having one or more hydroxyl groups; and R and R' are the same or different moieties selected from substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aryl, alkylaryl, and hydrogen; and laundry, cleaning, fabric and personal care compositions comprising these compounds.
