PURPOSE:To obtain a brain function improver containing a sinapic acid derivative as an active ingredient and used for improving and treating cerebral infarction or dementia. CONSTITUTION:This brain function improver contains a sinapic acid derivative of formula I [R1 and R2 each is H or a lower alkyl; R2 is OH, methoxy or methoxymethylenoxy; R4 is COR5 (R5 is OH, a lower alkoxy, an amine which may be substituted by an aromatic alkoxy, or methoxymethylenoxy) or formula II (R6 is a lower alkyl)] and its physiologically permissible salt as an active ingredient. The compound is used as an oral agent or a parenteral agent. In order to exhibit expected effect, in the oral preparation, 5-5000mg of the compound is preferably administrated in several portions per day and in the parenteral preparation, 0.5-100mg of the compound is preferably subjected to intravenous injection, perfusion injection, subcutaneous injection or intramuscular injection. |
