摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To prevent the destruction of active elements by orientation treatment by connecting an active element and a ferroelectric liquid crystal to form one pixel and disposing these pixels in a matrix form. CONSTITUTION:A composite type diode SCLAD 2 formed by using a space charge limiting current is used as the nonlinear element. The constitution of the nonlinear element and the pixel is made more integral. In this case, the pixel is connected by the electrode (first electrode) of the SCLAD 2 to the one electrode 23 (third electrode) of the ferroelectric liquid crystal 3. The SCLAD 2 is connected by the second electrode to Y wirings 4, 5. On the other hand, the fourth electrode 24 (counter electrode) of the ferroelectric liquid crystal 3 is connected to X wirings 6, 7. The X wirings 6, 7 are disposed in tight contact with the other light transmissive insulating substrate, representatively, the glass substrate side, in correspondence to the third electrode 23 of the ferroelectric liquid crystal 3.</p>
