PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal electronic device having sufficient high-speed responsiveness. CONSTITUTION:A sufficient on-off ratio is not obtainable under a condition 1 and there is no change from a display made to be responded near the threshold of the conventional TN type, etc., under a condition 2 and further, the sufficient response of liquid crystal display is optically obtd. even if the displacement of liquid crystal molecules is slight under a condition 3 in the case of driving by impressing the impression voltage from a driving voltage supply section 27 to picture elements by a field sequential system in such a manner that the optical on-off is executed between the impression voltages between the increase of the light transmittance and the decrease of the light transmittance in three ways of impression voltage-transmittance characteristics; the condition 3: dXDELTAn<lambda2, the condition 2: dXDELTAn=lambda2, the condition 3: dXDELTAn>lambda/2 in the retardation (dXDELTAn) which is a difference in the travelling distance of light between an ordinary light component and extraordinary light component in the case whose light for irradiation passes a liquid crystal layer 24 if the thickness of the liquid crystal layer 24 held by both substrates 22, 23 is defined as (d), the refractive index difference between the ordinary light and the extraordinary light as DELTAn and the wavelength of the light for irradiation of display as lambda. |
